It is fair to say that new AC Milan star Álvaro Morata has had a strange career. He has never truly found his home in football despite the consistent output he delivers.

The forward’s hot and cold form often turns fanbases against him, so much so that he announced his departure from Spain in dramatic fashion earlier this summer, bashing football fans in the country on his way out.

It is fair to see why Álvaro Morata is frustrated, as, having just captained his country to Euro 2024 glory, there were still calls from Atlético Madrid fans for him to leave.

Spain boss Luis de la Fuente has therefore been quick to jump to the player’s defence. Speaking on Telecinco’s ‘Babylon Show’, as quoted by ElDesmarque, the coach explained: ‘Álvaro Morata is the most misunderstood player in this national team‘.

He then elaborated: ‘With the career he has in another country he would be a footballing legend,’ before announcing that Morata will be continuing with the national setup and that this is something to be celebrated.

Morata got off to a quick start in Italy, scoring in his first league appearance, but he has now suffered a muscle injury and is not expected to return to action until September.
