England boss Gareth Southgate has revealed the reason why Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold has been left out of the latest squad.
The right-back was nowhere to be seen when Southgate revealed the last squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against San Marino, Albania and Poland.
Chelsea’s Reece James, Manchester City wing-back Kyle Walker and Atlético Madrid defender Kieran Trippier have been given the nod ahead of the 22-year-old.
Speaking in a press conference, Southgate said: “I don’t think he’s played at the level he’s been at during the last few years.
“He’s a big talent and I’m sure he will play a big role for England in the future.”
Liverpool have been in poor form since the turn of the year, are without a win at Anfield in 2021 and have dropped to sixth place in the Premier League table, 25 points behind league leaders Manchester City.
