Shane Long has belied his advancing years by registering in the top 10 fastest players in the Premier League last season.

The 33-year-old ranked eighth after topping out at 23.21mph during the Saints’ 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United in December.

Long, who scored two goals and provided two assists in 26 league games, was the oldest player in the top 10.

The fastest player was Manchester City’s Kyle Walker who reached 23.49mph in a sprint away to Chelsea in June.

That put him a whisker ahead of of Adama Traoré of Wolves after the winger hit 23.48mph against Chelsea on the final day of the season.

Long, who has been at Southampton since 2014, signed a two-year extension with the Saints in June.
