Southampton’s Sekou Mara targeted by Werder Bremen | OneFootball

Werder Bremen are targetting Southampton FC forward Sekou Mara (21) as a replacement for the departing Niclas Füllkrug, according to a report this Thursday from L’Equipe.

The Bundesliga side are in the process of parting ways with the Germany international forward, who is expected to join Borussia Dortmund in exchange of a €15m transfer fee. Füllkrug was the Bundesliga’s best goalscorer with 16 goals last season, tied with Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku. Werder Bremen are in the market for a centre-forward before the summer transfer window closes this Friday. L’Equipe understands that one of their options to bolster their attack leads to Mara.

The former Girondins de Bordeaux youth product is playing a mostly peripheral role with the Saints. He only logged 22 appearances in the Premier League this past campaign. Mara came off the Southampton bench in the Saints’ last two Championship outings. The outlet understands that Werder are seeking to welcome the France U21 international on loan with an option to buy.
