Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is feeling the heat from fans who ‘want change’ at St Mary’s, according to Tom Barclay of The Sun.

The Austrian has entered his fourth season in charge at St Mary’s but has just one point to his name after two games of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

What is the latest news from Southampton?

Saturday afternoon saw the south-coast side come from behind to snatch a point in a 2-2 draw with Leeds at home, with new signing Joe Aribo and right-back Kyle Walker-Peters on target.

Nevertheless, it is a result that will have left plenty of the home supporters dissatisfied, especially given how much their opponents had struggled the season before.

The slow start should not come as too big a surprise when a report from MailOnline last week is taken into account.

It claims that many of Southampton’s first-team squad were surprised Hasenhuttl had not been sacked over the summer, with the former RB Leipzig boss growing further detached from the squad.

A number of players also apparently spoke to the Southampton hierarchy over concerns regarding their manager.

What has Barclay said on the situation?

Barclay understands that plenty of supporters were shocked to see Hasenhuttl not lose his job before the start of this season.

The reporter also theorises that a number of fans likely feel that the 55-year-old has simply been there too long, as he enters his fourth year at the club.

Barclay told GIVEMESPORT: “I can understand why a lot of Southampton fans were surprised and perhaps a bit disappointed that he was definitely going to be there. I think part of that is due to the fact that, after a while, if nothing ever changes in football, people start to want change and really just want things just to go in a different direction. So I think there is that element with Ralph, he’s just been there long enough. They’re just about staying up every year and this year seems even harder.”

How much pressure is Hasenhuttl under?

While he may not be feeling the heat too much just yet, the next five games could well prove decisive.

Next up is a trip to Leicester, who also have just one point to their name this term. Home clashes with Manchester United and Chelsea follow but winnable battles with Wolves and Brentford are on the horizon too.

If there is no improvement in performances, the board may be tempted to act.
