Just a month ago, Plymouth Argyle defeated Liverpool. If that Championship side can beat the Reds, Southampton can also do so, given they follow club icon Francis Benali's blueprint today.
Well, as per you, what are Southampton's chances of pulling off some points against Liverpool today? For many of you, it will be negligible, or almost impossible if we talk of a win.
But, one thing's certain, it can never be less than what Leicester started with during the 2015/16 season. And how did it end? As an iconic against-all-odds success story that is now a Premier League classic.
Now, if Leicester maintained such form over the season, is it too much for the Saints to manage a result against Liverpool? It's definitely not.
Still, if that wasn't enough motivation, Southampton can turn to Plymouth Argyle's recent example.
Just a day later when the Saints faced a forgettable humiliation, Championship strugglers Plymouth wrote history. Frustrating the Reds to a miserable 0-1 loss, they became the first side to defeat Top Flight table toppers being bottom-most in the English second division.
Notably, that's what club icon Francis Benali hopes for Southampton to learn. Emphasizing a collective effort rather than individual effort tidbits, Benali believes the Saints still have chances today.
As quoted by the Daily Echo, Benali said: "Plymouth beat Liverpool because of the togetherness they showed and Saints need to ensure they can replicate that brotherhood today."
But, hey that's easier said than done.
We all know that even with key players available, improving squad cohesion has been tough for Southampton.
But again, this doesn't fall only on the players. Had boss Juric distributed his efforts in implementing his playstyle and bettering the squad planning, maybe we wouldn't be tensed for this Liverpool game.
Still, what's happened can't be undone now.
Let's hope if not for a win, Southampton takes back key memories from this Anfield trip. After all, they are sure to miss this atmosphere at least for a year next.
