Southampton set to hold firm on £50 million Romeo Lavia valuation

Southampton are set to hold firm in their £50m valuation of Romeo Lavia and believe that the level of interest in the midfielder will ensure their asking price is met.

Lavia is a transfer target for a number of the Premier League’s leading clubs after an impressive debut campaign at Southampton, with Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all interested in a deal for the teenager.

The 19-year-old signed for Southampton in a £12m deal from Manchester City last summer, but an encouraging first campaign at Premier League level has seen his value rocket. Despite relegation, the Saints are keen to hold firm in their £50m valuation and Sky Sports are reporting that there is confidence within the club that their asking price will be met.

However, there is hesitancy from Arsenal and Liverpool to meet Southampton’s valuation. Arsenal have already committed more than £200m to the signings of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber this summer, while Liverpool have strengthened with deals for Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.

Liverpool are understood to view Lavia as a long-term option in midfield and are keen to sign a third midfielder this summer, but interest from the Reds is dependent on Southampton lowering their asking price and outgoings at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side would also require Lavia to nominate Liverpool as his destination of choice, with the club unwilling to enter a bidding war for his services.

Chelsea are also considering an approach but remain focused on a deal for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. The Seagulls are hoping to receive close to £100m for the Ecuador international.
