Southampton sent Championship warning about being patient with Danny Rohl

Don Goodman insists Danny Rohl will struggle to bring immediate promotion with the kind of current squad Southampton employs.

As a Southampton fan, you’d probably agree that there’s little excitement around the club right now, even with a managerial appointment on the horizon. And understandably so, given the looming relegation concerns.

Hopefully, as the season draws to a close, excitement starts to build again. New hopes, fresh promises, and the anticipation of a new era return.

In fact, this time it should be even more special. After all, this could be one of the few recent times where Southampton makes a smart, no-regrets managerial appointment in Danny Röhl. At least we hope so.

But while the return of a familiar Saint may bring stability, Rohl’s task comes with a mountain of expectations. And being tipped to replicate ex-boss Martin's success, a Championship promotion will be the bare minimum expected of Rohl.

Now, it's not to doubt Rohl's credibility, still, it wouldn't be an easy job for Danny Rohl. At least, that's what Championship pundit Don Goodman feels.

Don Goodman awares Rohl of challenges associated with the Saints' role

Recently, speaking to Football League World, Goodman gave a reality check to Saints' future boss of what to expect given the club's situation.

Referencing Southampton, Goodman said: "It's not like they're going down with a massive fight, so whoever gets that job, whether it's Danny Rohl or not, has got an enormous task on their hands."

Well, in a season filled with criticism, this jab would sting Saints fans even more. But there's no denying that the club has made it a hopeless pit for any manager to walk in.

Consider this. Juric, arriving mid-season, has already faced severe criticism for poor performances. Then what awaits Rohl, who takes charge from day one?

Still, Saints fans will hope Rohl’s reign begins not with chaos, but with a dream run next season.
