Southampton can sign Che Adams from Torino this summer, but they will need to splash big money for the player who left them for free last year.
It's been days since Ugochukwu's stunning equalizer against West Ham, but that highlight remains fresh among Saints supporters. Now, it makes sense given that post-goal celebration was arguably Southampton's best memory this season.
But on the flip side, did you wonder how low the Saints have stooped to rely on a pivot's injury-time goal to avoid shame? Well, that's more than a siren for them to reinforce their attacking department soon.
Still again, while Southampton has been linked to some rising stars for this role, can they really depend on one to cater to Paul Onuachu's departure? No.
Honestly, it feels ironic, but given their recruitment plan, Southampton’s most obvious fix is to re-sign a trusted forward again. Only then, can the Saints prepare for a forward line rebuild this summer.
Now call it the Saints' clumsy luck or whatever, but as per the situation, Southampton's shortlist converges to a single name, Che Adams.
An ex-Saint, who has only improved from his last Southampton Championship spell to now at Torino, few would be better than him for the Saints for a promotion battle next season. But here’s the catch, bringing him back won’t come cheap.
This is because, though EFL Analysis expert Graeme Bailey believes Southampton can make a move for Che Adams, a reunion is to cost them a lot. Add that to Adams’ reported £55k-per-week Serie A salary, and you’re talking serious money for a Championship outfit.
Which raises the big question, are Southampton ready to swallow their pride and spend big on a player they let walk for free last summer?
Well, every fan would hope it to be a yes for Che Adams' return given Southampton's situation. But, would it be that way, remains one to be seen in the summer.
