Southampton are on the verge of completing a deal for Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, reports French outlet L’Equipe.

Sulemana began his professional career at Nordsjaelland. After impressing in his early years, he made a €20 million transfer to Rennes, becoming the most expensive Danish Superliga player of all time.

His time in France has been mixed, and he has often been in and out of the starting XI. Of his 34 Ligue 1 appearances, 21 came as a substitute. Nonetheless, at 20 years of age, he has plenty of time to become a superstar.

The youngster is also a regular on the international stage. He started all three games in Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign in 2022, and featured twice at the World Cup in Qatar.

Now, he is approaching the next step in his career. According to L’Equipe, Sulemana is close to finalising a €25 million transfer to Southampton.

It’s been a difficult season for the Saints. A run of seven defeats from their last eight has left them at the bottom of the table.

Nathan Jones’ men have issues at both ends of the pitch. They are amongst the lowest goalscorers in the division, while only Bournemouth have conceded more.

New wingers will be desired at St. Mary’s, with the south coast club lacking high-quality options in that department.

Mohamed Elyounnoussi, Moussa Djenepo, Nathan Redmond, and Theo Walcott have not managed a single goal between them, and boast a combined total of just two assists. Mislav Orsic has been brought in from Dinamo Zagreb, but another option would be welcome.

The deal will come as a bitter blow to Everton, who were also pursuing a move for the Ghana international. The Toffees are also in the midst of a relegation battle, sitting above Southampton on goal difference alone.

Similarly, the Merseyside outfit need a winger. Joint-top scorer Anthony Gordon has just departed for Newcastle United, leaving them with only three senior wide midfielders.
