Corberan has been a hit at the Hawthorns since his October 2022 appointment, and his side look set to challenge at the top of the Championship table this season after he led the Baggies to fifth place last term.

Albion currently sit top of the second-tier after a stellar start to the new campaign, with five wins and one draw in their opening six games seeing them set the pace in the early stages.

Football Insider recently revealed that the Spaniard has a £2m release clause in his contract amid interest from Leeds if Daniel Farke was to be relieved of his duties, but fresh updates have now emerged around his potential next destination.

According to the Sunday Mirror, via their print edition on Sunday (22 September, page 72), Corberan's possession-based style has got the Saints monitoring developments and seemingly ready to make a move if Leeds do soon.

They claim that current Southampton boss Russell Martin will be under scrutiny if their early Premier League struggles continue, with apparent concerns from their board about a one-dimensional style of play meaning a move for Corberan to replace him in the St Mary's dugout could be on the horizon.

It remains to be seen whether either Leeds or Southampton will look to appoint Corberan soon, with managers still in place at both clubs, but it would still be a shock to see him leave the Hawthorns so soon into the campaign with a promotion challenge looking very likely, even to a top-flight side.

Aside from the Saints' interest, the Sunday Mirror also report that Leicester City were eyeing the 41-year-old's services in the summer, but decided to appoint Steve Cooper instead.

Corberan is understandably set to be of interest to numerous different clubs that may look to change their manager in the coming months, but it does seem unlikely that he would depart the Hawthorns to join another Championship side, or even to a lower Premier League team.

The Baggies' development and improvement since the Spaniard's appointment has been very clear to see, and so they must make sure he stays in charge until at least the end of the season, with promotion very possible if their form continues in the same vein.

The 41-year-old has been a clear success in the West Midlands up to now, with a ninth-placed finish in his first campaign in charge after being appointed with the club in the relegation zone in October, then a fifth-placed finish last season as the Baggies were beaten in the play-off semi-final second-leg by the Saints.

His side's ascent has only continued so far this season with an electric start that has seen them concede just twice in six league games and not lose a Championship outing as yet.

It is absolutely imperative that they hold on to him for the foreseeable future, and a new contract must be put in front of him as soon as possible to make sure that his alleged release clause is unable to be triggered, and the likes of the Saints and the Whites cannot swoop in.
