Southampton are reviewing comments manager Nathan Jones made after their 3-0 loss to Brentford, reports The Athletic.

The Saints remain rock-bottom of the Premier League after suffering their 14th defeat of the season on Saturday.

Jones took over from Ralph Hasenhuttl in November 2022 and Southampton have lost six of seven league games since then.

The Welshman’s future at the club is under increased scrutiny. He took a shot at the fans, players and staff after the defeat to the Bees.

Jones claimed ‘there are certain people in the village and players in the building that we have to work with’.

He also ranted about how impressive his statistics were at his former club Luton Town. Jones is not expected to be sacked this week.

However, the next game against Wolverhampton Wanderers could be the final straw.

Southampton play Wolves at St Mary’s on Saturday, and failure to win could see the board take action.

Audible chants of ‘get out of our club’ were directed at the Jones against Brentford.

His post-match press conference has done little to prevent a repeat this coming weekend. The south coast club are currently three points off safety.

Holding on to their top-flight status is feasible, but they may need a third manager to get the job done.

The 49-year-old signed a three-and-a-half-year contract when he became the manager.

Jones could struggle to spend four months at Southampton if the results do not change promptly.
