Southampton goalkeeper Kayla Rendell has been called into the England senior squad in place of Manchester City’s Khiara Keating.

England head coach Sarina Wiegman confirmed the news this morning in the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s opening UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifier against Sweden at Wembley Stadium.

Wiegman has confirmed that Manchester City keeper Keating has been struggling with a knee injury. England have opted against taking any risks with the player’s fitness and she has been allowed to return to club for treatment. Southampton keeper Rendell has received her first senior call-up as a replacement. She will provide competition for both Mary Earps and Hannah Hampton.

Rendell is no stranger to the England environment. She has represented The Lionesses at various youth levels up to and including Under-23 level. The 22-year-old was named in The Young Lionesses squad for tonight’s Under-23 fixture against Sweden in Telford prior to her promotion to the senior squad.

At club level, Rendell is Southampton’s first-choice goalkeeper. She has excelled in the Barclays Women’s Championship over the last two seasons, making 39 league appearances.

England’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 qualifier against Sweden at Wembley kicks-off at 8pm tomorrow night. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
