Southampton will not be completing the signing of Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow, with the goalkeeper revealing Saints have a different view of an old injury.
Saints agreed a deal with Feyenoord to sign the goalkeeper on loan with an obligation to buy based on certain conditions being met.
Those conditions would have largely related to the number of appearances that Bijlow made at St Mary’s.
However, there has been an issue uncovered in Bijlow’s medical that Southampton are unhappy with.
Now as a result the deal has collapsed and the goalkeeper is heading back to Feyenoord.
What the exact issue is that caused Southampton to collapse the deal is unclear, but Bijlow indicates it relates to the treatment of an old injury and it is an injury which causes him no issues.
Bijlow confirmed the news on his Instagram page, where he wrote: “I was on my way to the Premier League.
“After a very special day last Sunday, for which I am very grateful, I prepared myself to leave Feyenoord. I did not find that easy and it was not my first choice, but it had to be in the interest of my career.
“The medical examination showed that Southampton has a different view than Feyenoord on the treatment of an old injury. I am fully fit and this does not hinder me, but I respect the view of the Southampton medical staff.
“This brings me back to Rotterdam, to my club Feyenoord. My bond with the city and the club is rock solid. I will continue to fight for a place in the goal of Feyenoord and the Dutch national team. Feyenoord fans, thank you for the support you always give me.”
With the clock ticking on the transfer window, time is limited for Southampton to line up another goalkeeper deal.
