Southampton FC have not had the best time of late, with three losses in their last six matches sending them further down the table and to the outskirts of the automatic promotion race.

Automatic promotion is looking unlikely, and the club may be forced to contend with the play-offs if they want to return to the Premier League next season, although their games in-hand, one of which is against Leicester, could turn things around.

Meanwhile, transfer rumours have been rumbling despite their focus on the last few games of the season.

Southampton could negotiate with Juventus over Alcaraz deal

It looks as though Southampton could be ready to negotiate with Juventus over a deal for Carlos Alcaraz.

The player joined the Turin club on loan in January, with an option to buy for a reported fee of £40 million. He left St Mary's just one year after signing a four-and-a-half year deal with the Saints, following his move from Racing Club in January last year.

It has been reported that Juventus were not happy with the fee, and wanted to negotiate another deal for the end of the season. At the time, Southampton were not too keen, but recent reports indicate they are ready to strike up a new deal with the Italian giants.

With his contract up in the summer, it always seemed likely Che Adams would leave the Saints at the end of the season.

The Telegraph have reported that Wolverhampton Wanderers are chasing the Scottish international's signature, following a relatively successful season for the forward so far this year.

The 27-year-old has scored 10 goals in the Championship for the promotion-chasing side, earning interest from the Premier League from Wolves.

Adams will be a free agent in the summer, and with no new deal on the horizon, is unlikely to remain with The Saints for much longer.

Southampton have been linked with a move for Juventus youngster Samuel Illing-Junior, although they face stiff competition for his signature.

According to Football Insider, four top-flight clubs are monitoring the 20-year-old, with a view to a transfer move in the summer. His versatility, with the ability to play in midfield or defence, will be a huge boost to whichever club manages to secure his signature in the summer.

His contract with the Old Lady is up in 2025, so now will be the last time they can cash in on the England under-21 international. He has played 17 matches for Juventus so far this season, although he's struggled to nail down a spot in the team since leaving Chelsea in 2020.

Everton, Tottenham, Brighton and West Ham are all the clubs joining Southampton in their interest in the Englishman. All of them are a more attractive prospect, given their Premier League status.

While the promise of a starting berth would be attractive, it is unlikely to attract his signature if the Saints are not promoted at the end of the season.
