Southampton have emerged as the new favourites to land much-heralded Real Valladolid centre-back Mohammed Salisu.
That’s according to a report from AS, who claim that a move to Ligue 1 side Rennes was close but now his future ‘remains unclear’ after talks between the two sides were put on hold.
There have been many claims that Salisu is holding out for a move to the Premier League, with Newcastle and Wolves also keen to sign the talented 21-year-old.
It’s rumoured that Valladolid received an €8m (£7.2m) offer from Rennes and that the player has a meagre £10m release clause.
However, with the Saints being labelled favourites, it’s safe to assume that the club have made a bid or are close to activating his release.
