Southampton expect Danny Ings to be fit to face his previous club Liverpool at St Mary’s on Monday night.

Ings returned from a knee injury to play the whole 90 minutes in last Tuesday’s 0-0 draw with West Ham.

Speaking during his pre-Liverpool press conference, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl was hopeful the six days between games would work to the striker’s advantage.

“So far I think he (Ings) is okay. He had a good start against West Ham with the goal, but it was offside a little bit,” Hasenhüttl said.

“It is perfectly normal that he is not 100% in the rhythm but it is important that the stays fit now.

“He has had a little bit of time to recover now ahead of a game against his former club, Liverpool.”

The Saints must plan without centre-back Jannik Vestergaard (knee) and winger Nathan Redmond (hamstring), with both players expected to be sidelined for another couple of weeks.

Liverpool and Southampton come into the game after experiencing poor form over the festive period.

The Reds were held to consecutive draws by West Brom and Newcastle, while the hosts have not won in their last four league games.
