Southampton have completed this season’s fixtures at St Mary’s Stadium with a 3-1 victory over London City Lionesses this afternoon.

The Saints collected their third consecutive home win thanks to goals from Molly Pike, Emma Thompson and Rianna Dean.

Southampton started the match well and Atlanta Primus saw a low shot saved by visiting keeper Grace Moloney before Thompson curled a loose ball wide.

The Saints took the lead in the 15th minute through midfielder Pike who converted a pinpoint cross from Ella Morris.

Thompson then doubled the hosts’ advantage in the 24th minute after she met Lucia Kendall’s cross. That was her third goal at St Mary’s Stadium this season.

London City Lionesses posed some danger to the Southampton goal from a couple of corner kicks along with Megan Campbell’s long throws, however, they were unable to find a way beyond England international keeper Kayla Rendell in the first half.

Southampton picked up the momentum after the break as they looked to build on their two-goal lead, however, they struggled to make another breakthrough.

With 18 minutes to go, it was London City Lionesses who were able to reduce the arrears when Leanne Cowan converted Danielle Carter’s ball towards the back post.

Southampton reacted well to their setback and Dean made an impact from the bench, converting a one-on-one to restore her side’s two-goal cushion.

Both teams pushed for further goals but the scoreline remained 3-1 in Southampton’s favour as they ended their home campaign on a positive note.

Southampton complete their season at Charlton Athletic next weekend while London City Lionesses play host to relegated Lewes.
