Marieanne Spacey-Cale will step down from her position as first team head coach of Southampton and she will move into a new role over the summer.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Saints this evening.

Spacey-Cale has led the first team since her arrival at the club in 2018 as part of her role as head of women and girls’ football. It has now been revealed that Spacey-Cale will step down from first team duties and will focus on the wider women’s and girls’ programme at Southampton in a new role at the club.

Southampton have enjoyed continued progress in the elite game under Spacey-Cale’s leadership. The Saints finished the 2022/2023 campaign in sixth position in the Barclays Women’s Championship table before recording a fourth-placed ranking this term. The club have long-term ambitions of reaching the Barclays Women’s Super League.

It has been reported that Spacey-Cale’s new role is a more senior position within the club’s footballing structure.

Speaking following the announcement, Spacey-Cale said “This is a pivotal moment for us to take our women and girls’ programme to the next level, in an exciting era of women’s football.

“I look forward to building on the strong foundations we have in place to ensure we are ready not only for next season but that we can create something special for years to come.”

Southampton will now begin the recruitment process for a new first team manager.
