Southampton announce pre-season friendly against Arsenal | OneFootball

Southampton have announced the news that they will face Arsenal in a pre-season friendly at St Mary’s Stadium later this month.

The Saints revealed details of the fixture via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Southampton will play host to the Barclays Women’s Super League giants at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday 31 August 2024 (kick-off 1.30pm). Fans of both clubs will be permitted to attend the fixture.

The two clubs previously met in the group stage of last season’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup. Southampton pushed Arsenal all the way at St Mary’s Stadium before going down 2-1. Molly Pike opened the scoring for The Saints early in the second half before Frida Maanum soon levelled matters for the visitors. Arsenal needed a 92nd-minute Amanda Ilestedt goal to avoid a penalty shootout.

Southampton will now be looking to impress again when they face English football’s best-supported club later this month.

Following this afternoon’s announcement, Southampton’s Director of Women’s Football, Marieanne Spacey-Cale said “We’re delighted to be hosting Arsenal once again. Last season we saw a brilliant atmosphere at St Mary’s, and we really hope the fans will come out in their thousands to support the side once again. It’ll be a great opportunity for fans to see Remi Allen and her squad in action on home soil ahead of the new season starting.”

Tickets for the match go on-sale to women’s season ticket holders at 9.30am tomorrow morning before being made available to men’s season ticket holders 24 hours’ later. General sale starts on Friday morning.
