‘A good win against the bottom team.

Some great forward play today, not quite at our best in defence.

Two brilliant goals to get us back to winning ways.

Back home next Saturday to hopefully get another good result to boost our great season.’

Dean Wilkins:

‘Yet more proof.

Give Alexander Isak the service and he will create havoc.

Two great cool finishes and only the boot of the Southampton keeper prevented the hat-trick.

Some great approach play as well from Isak.

What a player!’

Jamie Smith:

‘Phew, we all feared things going Pete Tong when that sucker punch of an opener went in didn’t we?

That was against the run of play and that remained the case, as a controlled and professional performance delivered the win we needed to bounce back from last week.

Which was expected, given the shocking time this Southampton side are having this season.

Another full week to recover and with rivals knocking lumps out of each other, a chance to make up some ground again if we can keep the form ticking against Fulham.

Couple of scares and a couple of welcome interventions from the VAR… but a 5th straight away win and everything feels a bit better now.’

Jack Watt:

‘Could there be a more popular goalscorer than Sandro Tonali???

His usual excellent overall display but this time, a goal on top of it!

We have some really clever players and the Isak header and to Gordon who then played Tonali in to score, wow!!’

Matthew Robson:

‘One poor defensive moment and whilst Southampton had a couple of other efforts on target, never really in doubt.

All credit to United for not panicking after that early setback.

The referee was hopeless and once again, thank you to VAR.

How on earth the ref didn’t straight away give that blatant penalty is anybody’s guess.’

Matt Busby said to Joe Harvey…:

‘That’s five wins from our last six trips to Sourhampton, a place where we couldn’t buy a win for years, and a potential banana skin avoided.

It maybe didn’t feel like that after ten minutes but we steadied ourselves with Alex Isak’s brace edging us ahead before half time.

And it was never in doubt once Sandro Tonali added a briliant third shortly after the restart.

In case anyone’s forgotten, that’s our tenth win in our last eleven outings.’

GToon:

‘Get in there!

We needed that and we needed the performance with it too.

Hit the post twice too and coul have had more.

Absolutely loved the Tonali goal.

So it’s getting very interesting at the top.

And we are back in the mix.

Great to see Miggy get the reception he deserved for the last 5 too.

This lot used to be our bogey side but they got cleaned up today and in front of our chief tormentor Le Tissier too.

Happy days.

Special mention to Dubravka who made a fantastic save just before we got our third. He deserves his place.’

The Armchair Fan:

‘Get in! Job well done.

Was a touch worried when we went behind but a professional performance in the end that could have been an even more emphatic win.

Great to be back on track after last weekend.

Onwards and upwards!’

David Punton:

‘Back to winning ways and a much needed tonic after last week’s blip.

Thank the lord for Isak.

Two more goals for the super Swede got us back into this contest, sparing a few blushes against the league’s bottom side.

Southampton are doomed but they bagged a lead with a free header. Defensively found wanting.

That setback was rectified professionally and Tonali came up with killer third goal after half time to seal victory.

The VAR intervention took too long today but it saved us from a nervy finish.

This team making it four consecutive away Premier League wins for the first time since 1996.

“It’s a great result and especially for the fans up in the early hours to get down to the south coast.’

Tony Mallabar:

‘Na na na na na Miggy Almiron, Miggy Almiron.

Well if he’s leaving that was one hell of a send off.

Normally I like to watch the match, not through the lens of my phone. But at FT I wish I’d made an exception.

When the team come out today we were roared on by 3,000 fans baying for a turnaround after the Bournemouth farce.

Today was more about performance than the result, as anything other than an in your face and at them display might have given Arsenal a sniff in the return leg.’

Billy Miller:

‘Newcastle back to winning ways.

Isak back on the score sheet.

This is precisely the type of game we would have tripped up in in the past.

Never forget the season Derby only got 11 points and four of them were against us!

This dire Southampton side could well set a new record and at least we won’t be a footnote if they do.’
