Celtic’s long search for a new left-back could end with the arrival of Argentinian talent, Alexandro Bernabei.

Football Scotland reports that the 21-year-old could join Celtic in the ‘coming days’ as competition for Greg Taylor.

The Lanus left-back, who is capped at U19 for his country, has reportedly been on Celtic’s radar for some time. If signed, Bernabei would become the first Argentinian player to wear the famous hoops of Celtic.

It’s no surprise to see Celtic linked with another left-back. Postecoglou knows this area of his squad needs strengthened as he looks to ‘make an impact’ on the Champions League.

Greg Taylor has turned in some excellent performances in the last 12 months, but it’s an area of the pitch where quality teams have exposed us in the past.

Liam Scales is the only other natural left-back but Ange used him sparingly last season. Reports that he is wanted by Aberdeen seem to suggest his chance to impress may be over.

Until Bernabei puts pen to paper it’s wise not to get too excited about this one. Just last month, Mohanad Jeahze was tipped to join the squad in a £2m deal that hasn’t yet materialised.

It’s that time of the year however, when speculation rules the headlines. Time will tell if Bernabei becomes the first Argentine Celtic welcome at Lennoxtown.
