Mamelodi Sundowns have consistently been the trailblazers for development in the women’s game in South Africa for numerous landmarks. This trend continues following the appointment of Christa Kgamphe-Jane, their first ever Head of Women’s Football.
The Pretorian-based side most recently broke boundaries by airing a tell-all behind the scenes documentary in partnership with Netflix and Roc Nation. A huge watershed moment for African women’s football.
The Sundowns have now appointed Kgamphe-Jane in a ground-breaking role. The South African, who hold degrees in Sports Business and Marketing, is their latest sign of intent to grow the club, and as a result, the sport.
Kgamphe-Jane spoke about the magnitude of the role being created at the club shortly after being appointed.
“Taking up this opportunity means that Mamelodi Sundowns will be afforded a platform and support to flourish.”
Alongside Kgamphe-Jane’s extensive training and knowledge on what it takes to run a successful sporting entity, there is no doubt the club will continue to go from strength to strength. Following the Sundowns winning two trebles in three years, there’s plenty for their new Head of Women’s Football to build on.
“The club sought someone with related qualifications, vast experience and a passion for growing the game. The team is already performing well on the field. This is a chance to create workable sub-systems and maintain existing ones within the entire structure of this great Club.
“I am here to further enhance the vision of the Club. I have been exposed to domestic and international football systems and this experience will be valuable.”
The Sundowns’ intention is that the role will give Kgamphe-Jane the scope to implement a growth strategy for the club. Going forward, the club also outlined a desire for the new role to ‘foster a culture of excellence, inclusivity and professionalism’.
