Football League World can exclusively reveal that Premier League duo Everton and Wolves remain keen on Watford star Giorgi Chakvetadze
Premier League duo Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton are still keen on signing Watford midfielder Giorgi Chakvetadze, Football League World can exclusively reveal.
Football League World reported back in December that Wolves, Everton and Leicester City were keen on the Hornets midfielder ahead of the January transfer window, and sources have informed FLW that the Molineux side and the Merseyside outfit remain interested.
This season, Chakvetadze has scored two goals and created five assists in the Championship for a Hornets side who are vying to land a Championship play-off spot.
His performances in the second tier have clearly impressed the aforementioned Premier League duo, who have both sent scouts to Watford's recent fixtures in order to have a look at the Georgia international.
He also created an assist during a 2-1 defeat in the EFL Cup to Manchester City last September, demonstrating his ability to perform against high quality opposition.
However, both Everton and Wolves also remain wary of the elevated price-tag the Hornets will likely command for Chakvetadze's services, due to the fact that he is under contract at Vicarage Road until 2029.
It was previously reported by The Sun back in October that Tom Cleverley's side would demand up to £20million for the 25-year-old's signature.
Chakvetadze made four appearances for Georgia in Euro 2024, and played a big role in his nation's unlikely run to the knockout stages, so the presence of Premier League interest in his services is no surprise.
Chakvetadze is a class act whose seven goal contributions in 32 Championship appearances this term have helped the Hornets remain in touching distance of the play-off spots.
His performances in the second tier, coupled with his international accolades, suggest that he could be ready to make the step-up to the Premier League come the summer.
Wolves' chances of signing the ace could hinge on whether they survive the threat of relegation from the top-flight, while Everton look set for a comfortable end to the season under the increasingly impressive stewardship of David Moyes.
A potential transfer fee of £20m, or perhaps even more, would be a heavy outlay for both Premier League clubs who have recently scouted Chakvetadze, but there is no doubt that he is a quality player who still boasts bags of potential at 25 years old.
