Tranmere are set to sign former Burnley striker Joel Mumbongo on a free transfer, Football League World has been told.

The Swedish forward was released by Burnley earlier in the summer and has been on trial at Tranmere where he has done enough to win a deal at Prenton Park.

Tranmere were in the promotion conversation for much of last season in Sky Bet League Two, but ultimately they fell short in the race, with them finishing in 9th.

Whilst they were defensively sound last year, up the other end they also struggled to find the net, with the first half of the season proving particularly difficult for them to score goals.

That in mind, then, it’s not that much of a surprise to see them looking at adding to their attacking options ahead of the new campaign, and they will hope Mumbongo can help them in their bid to challenge for promotion.
