ESPN are reporting that they have “sources” which tell them that Chelsea are “increasingly confident” that 38 year old centre back Thiago Silva is ready to sign another year long contract with them.

Silva’s rolling yearly deal expires this summer, but there’s no indication he won’t sign a new one soon – as he did 12 and 24 months ago.

This should come as no surprise to anyone at this stage. Silva has been absolutely fantastic since signing for us, and in a team with so many youngsters his presence is vital off the pitch too.

He seems to enjoy playing for us and living in London, so there should be no issues with giving him another year on his deal.

In fact, his continuing quality makes the initial one year deal was given look silly. You could have given him a 5 year deal back then and you still wouldn’t be close to regretting it yet.
