Former Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson has agreed to be the new Morecambe manager, Football Insider understands.

The 46-year-old has been in talks with the Shrimpers since Derek Adams quit in midweek to take over Bradford City.

A Morecambe source has told Football Insider Robinson is in line to be appointed by new League One outfit Morecambe in the coming days.

Adams sensationally stepped down as Shrimps boss this week, just days after guiding the club to promotion.

He watched on at Wembley as an extra-time penalty from Carlos Mendes Gomes saw Morecambe defeat Newport County.

On Thursday (3rd June), the club released a statement confirming Adams was stepping down to “pursue an opportunity elsewhere”.

Later that day he was confirmed as the new Bradford Coty boss, taking over from Mark Trueman and Conor Sellars.

Robinson has been out of work since resigning as Motherwell boss on New Year’s Eve.

He was appointed as the Well’s manager in March 2017 after initially joining the club as a first team coach in February 2017.

This was his second spell at the club as he worked as assistant manager to Ian Baraclough in 2015.

During the 2017/18 season he led Motherwell to the final of both the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup.

However, his side was beaten in by Celtic on both occasions.

Before his second spell at Motherwell, Robinson was given the manager’s job at Oldham Athletic in July 2016.

He only lasted a few months in the role as he was replaced by John Sheridan in January 2017.

As a player, Robinson made over 200 appearances for both Bournemouth and Luton Town.
