According to a recent report from Fichajes, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are on the lookout to reinforce their defensive lines ahead of next season, with their focus on two highly talented centre-backs from Sporting CP: Zeno Debast and Ousmane Diomande.
These two players have been exceptional in their performances, making them prime targets for some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Barcelona.
However, Barcelona’s financial challenges may hinder their ability to compete for these signings.
Debast, a Belgian-born defender, has a contract with Sporting until 2029. Known for his smooth ball control and leadership at the back, Debast stands out for his composure in possession and his ability to organise the defence.
His impressive skill set has not gone unnoticed, and his market value has significantly risen.

On the other hand, Ivorian defender Diomande, whose contract runs until 2027, offers physical strength and aerial dominance.
His presence in the air and his overall defensive solidity make him a key figure for Sporting CP, adding to his appeal for top clubs.
Despite Sporting CP’s reluctance to let these players go, Real Madrid could be in a strong position to secure one of them due to their strong financial backing. Their ability to make high-profile signings could give them an edge in the race.
Furthermore, the growing need of defensive reinforcement could also be a major factor in their pursuit.
Atletico Madrid, however, also have the financial means to compete for these players, especially after earning a substantial amount from the sale of Arthur Vermeeren. This could allow them to challenge Real Madrid in securing a deal.
The competition between these two Madrid giants is expected to be fierce as both clubs seek to strengthen their defences with young talent that has international potential.
