League Two promotion chasers Northampton Town are keen to add Forest Green Rovers striker Matty Stevens to their ranks for the remainder of the 2022-23 season, sources have exclusively informed Football League World.

The Cobblers are sitting third in the fourth tier of English football right now, but with the likes of Carlisle United and Salford City right behind then, manager Jon Brady is looking for some extra firepower to keep the club in the automatic promotion spots.

And the club have identified Stevens as a player of interest in the final week of the transfer window.

Stevens, who signed for Forest Green in 2019 from Peterborough United, was prolific in League Two last season, scoring 23 goals in 37 matches to help lead the Gloucestershire outfit to League One for the very first time, but his campaign was ended early due to an ACL injury.

The 24-year-old returned to action at the end of December and has made six appearances in all competitions this season, with all but one of those coming off the bench.

With Rovers embroiled in a relegation battle though, their striking options have been bolstered with the arrivals of Amadou Bakayoko, Jordon Garrick and Tyrese Omotoye, which could potentially leave Stevens fighting for game-time.

Northampton want to give Stevens a chance of regular game-time for the rest of the season though and are plotting a temporary move for the goalscorer in the coming days.
