AC Milan are readying a bid for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, Football Insider understands.
The Italian clubs have set their sights on the England international, 24, as a potential replacement for PSG-bound Gianluigi Donnarumma.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider Henderson is keen to leave Old Trafford if he is not the number one next season.
That status is now deemed unlikely even though he started 10 of the last 12 Premier League matches in the recent season.
Football Insider revealed on Wednesday (June 9th) that Manchester United coaches have misgivings over Henderson’s attitude behind the scenes.
He signed a five-year contract last year worth around £100,000-a-week following two successful loan seasons at Sheffield United.
United also have an option to extend that deal by a further year.
However, the north west giants are understood to be open to offers for the one-cap England international.
Henderson played 26 times across all competitions during the 2020/21 campaign.
He started 10 of United’s final 12 Premier League games but was tellingly overlooked in favour of David de Gea for the Europa League final.
It is understood Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be open to selling either shot-stopper.
However, de Gea’s £350,000-a-week wages make Henderson more affordable for buyers.
The England star’s availability has caught the interest of AC Milan.
The Italian heavyweights are set to lose Donnarumma on a free transfer and are preparing a bid for Henderson.
One goalkeeper who will be at Old Trafford next summer is Tom Heaton.
As revealed by Football Insider in May, the Red Devils have agreed a deal to sign the departing Aston Villa goalkeeper on a free transfer.
However, it is understood he will not be unveiled until July 1st.
