Pepe Reina will turn 38 in August but seemingly has no intention of retiring, as he made quite clear in a recent interview. However, his future is still uncertain and it remains to be seen where he will play next year.

The goalkeeper still has one year left on his contract with AC Milan, having joined Aston Villa on a six-month loan in January to gain playing. Furthermore, the Rossoneri wanted to get rid off his high salary, which amounts to €3.5m per year.

However, as reported by Milanisti Non Evoluto’s Alessandro Jacobone on Twitter, parting ways with Reina isn’t easy. Aston Villa have submitted a two-year contract offer worth €2m per season, but his Milan contract complicates things.

The Rossoneri are willing to cut ties for free but the Spaniard is also asking for a severance pay, given the difference between his current salary and the offer. This is something that the club won’t agree to, stalling the situation.
