What a year for Newcastle United!

What a rollercoaster of a season.

We won something and then qualified for the Champions League in the most bizarre way.

Possibly the greatest Newcastle United season in my lifetime.

So here’s a few throwaway comments on the season and the Premier League clubs in it, now that it’s all over.

Arsenal – we have their number.

Hilarious how Lego head has created a rivalry that his players aren’t up to. He’s spent absolutely millions and what has he come up with…corners !!! Nowt else, just corners. What a clueless clown this bad tempered little person is.

Aston Villa – they have a top manager and some very decent players and they apparently are going to need to sell.

Who have they bought? Who can they sell? Nobody really stands out for either. Another team who want to challenge the top six but are held back.

Brighton – if we are laughing at Arsenal then this lot must be laughing at us. What is it with this side? There’s barely a player I’d take from their team but they seem to have our number. Was that Isak penalty the most important penalty we’ve ever scored?

Forest – had a decent season but they have good players so why not.

Nice to see them ruffle a few feathers this year.

Bournemouth– see Brighton above, just on speed.

Brentford – their manager is always really complimentary about us, regardless of the score.

A genuinely decent bloke. And they have a player who apparently loves the toon. Come on Eddie, get him signed!

Chelsea – apparently they are going to sell the grass to themselves every time they cut it.

I simply cannot understand how they are allowed to operate. The EPL make a fuss about compliance with PSR and yet this lot are simply hilarious. Is there nothing their lawyers can’t solve?

Citeh – Pep showed the country what a great manager he really is…

When they went through a tough spell and kept losing he kept coming out with “I have to find the solution.” He didn’t find it, they kept on losing and dropping points.

Then January arrived and he spent around £170m and suddenly they started winning again. Magic!

Manyoo – my second favourite team this season.

Not only for the Villa game but for the six points and the excuses and the performances. I wonder how long before they will have to sell some of their trophies to keep the wolves from the door. Well, it’s not like they have any players worth selling tbh.

Leicester– facing more PSR/financial issues apparently.

Well, they have a woman’s team. See Chelsea above and add a few million on your valuation. Problem solved.

And now to our season.

It’s been an incredible ride for Newcastle United fans. It’s had everything. A trophy, incredible goals, winning runs, famous victories and we finally beat Liverpool when it mattered most.

In the league we have been effective at beating the bottom sides and at taking points off the top teams too but it’s that middle ground where we have struggled. Bournemouth, Brighton, West Ham, Fulham and Everton, five home games and zero points! Out of the 30 points available from those teams we got six. Imagine if we’d had a “normal” return from those games. We could have been right up there. Hopefully that will be addressed with a few purchases in the summer. I won’t trot out what we need and who to get. We just need to keep improving.

So there you have it. Eddie Howe was right all along. We should have stuck with him because he did win something and we do have a very good team. Now, about that new ground…
