Son Heung-min is set to return for Tottenham ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Brighton in North London.

The forward has returned from international commitments after South Korea were eliminated from the Asian Cup in the semi-finals.

The Taegeuk Warriors lost 2-0 to Jordan in the last four, extending their wait for continental success. South Korea have not won the Asian Cup since the second of back-to-back titles in 1960.

South Korea’s exit means Son is back available for Spurs this weekend, having returned to training this week. The 31-year-old is the club’s leading scorer with 12 goals in the Premier League and Ange Postecoglou is delighted to have the club captain available for selection.

“It wouldn’t surprise anyone that he is like that,” Postecoglou said of Son’s return to training at his pre-match press conference.

“He is very disappointed for Korea’s exit, at the semi-final stage you feel so close. But he gave everything for his nation, no-one could question his commitment. I spoke to him after and he was keen to be back, so no surprise he was back training straight away.”

Spurs dropped out of the Premier League’s top four last weekend after conceding a late equaliser to draw at Everton. The North Londoners can move back above Aston Villa with a win tomorrow, ahead of the latter’s clash with Manchester United on Sunday.
