Gianfelice Facchetti, son of legendary former Inter captain Giaciento Facchetti, believes that Inter must focus on defensive solidity and balance in their match against Juventus this evening.

Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in an interview published in today’s print edition, Facchetti gave the view that this increased resolve will be necessary to get the best out of the good performances that the team can put in.

Inter face a major test of their credentials at the top of Serie A when they host the Bianconeri, with Max Allegri’s resurgent after a poor start and looking one of the most formidable opponents in Serie A.

Should the Nerazzurri show the kinds of defensive lapses that they have shown at times this season then they can expect that Juventus will punish them.

Accordingly, Facchetti is of the view that solidity above all else must be the thing that Simone Inzaghi’s team search for in the match, while he also gave his views on some key players for the Nerazzurri.

“I expect a good game,” he stated. “Inter gave a positive response on Wednesday in the Champions League after the defeat in Rome against Lazio. It was mandatory to win the three points and the Nerazzurri did it, winning the match against the champions of Moldova decisively and entertaining their fans.”

He went on that “You have to find consistency and that defensive solidity of last year that is still missing somehow, even if under Inzaghi the team probably plays a more fun game.”

Of the selection dilemma between Hakan Calhanoglu and Arturo Vidal in midfield he stated that “I would bet on the Chilean. Not that the Turkish player has done badly, but there is a lot of expectation on him because he left Milan to come to Inter.”

“You have to give him time and wait for him to find the right chemistry in the midfield,” he went on. “In addition, Vidal has just been decisive against Sheriff Tiraspol and last year he scored against Juventus in the 2-0 at San Siro.”

And on who he expects the decisive players to be he said, “As for Inter, everyone is doing well. Although I think Dzeko is one of the players in better shape for the occasion, I would also expect a Barella or someone to surprise the defense.”
