Tottenham Hotspur will entertain Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon, looking to earn maximum points in the Premier League. Spurs managed to bounce back from their 2-1 defeat against West Ham United by securing a comfortable 4-0 win over Wolfsberger AC in the UEFA Europa League in midweek.

Jose Mourinho will once again opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to revert to his strongest XI for this game. Heung-min Son, Gareth Bale and Harry Kane are likely to return to Tottenham’s starting XI after they were rested earlier this week.

Defence

Hugo Lloris will function in between the sticks for the North London outfit after shipping in two goals versus the Hammers in his last league appearance. Eric Dier will resume his defensive partnership with Toby Alderweireld at the heart of Mourinho’s defence as they try to maintain a solid shape at the back to stop the Clarets from scoring during the game.

Japhet Tanganga will fill in at right-back while Ben Davies gets the nod to impress on the other side as the left-back. Mourinho will ask both his full-backs to deal with the danger when required and also provide some natural width out on the flanks.

Serge Aurier is a slight concern ahead of this game, but both Davinson Sanchez and Sergio Reguilon will be available for selection on the Tottenham bench.

Midfield

Pierre-Emile Højbjerg will anchor the midfield along with Tanguy Ndombele as they focus on establishing their superiority over Burnley at the centre of the park. Heung-Min Son will be a guaranteed starter down the left flank while Erik Lamela gets another chance to impress as Tottenham’s primary attacking midfielder. Gareth Bale will probably feature as the right-sided winger after his goal-scoring display in midweek.

Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Dele Alli will be named on the Spurs bench as they offer cover for the midfield positions.

Attack

Harry Kane will once again spearhead Jose Mourinho’s attack in the final third. The English centre-forward will be eager to get his name on the scoresheet after failing to find the back of the net in the London derby last weekend.

Carlos Vinicius will have to settle for a place on the bench after netting two goals versus Wolfsberger AC in midweek.
