The news that Joao Pedro was going to join Chelsea within the next few days looked like it would close out the Blues’ summer business. But in fact, it looks like there could be more to come.

Fabrizio Romano has just gone on his Youtube channel to declare that the Blues intend to do more business this summer, including in forward areas:
“Chelsea are building something special for their attacking package,” the transfer insider said.
“I think Chelsea will do more. I will not be surprised if Chelsea add one more offensive player and I still expect Chelsea to add a centre back in the summer transfer window.”
You can see Romano speaking about the Blues’ intentions in the clip embedded here, with this section coming after 3 minutes:
With Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, Jamie Gittens, Estevao Willian, Tyrique George plus potentially Joao Pedro and Nicolas Jackson competing to play in the wide positions, one would have to think that a departure would come before a major new addition.
From what we can tell, there’s no intention to loan out youngsters George or Estevao, so any major purchase would likely depend on the sale of Noni Madueke.
That’s still a way off, but Romano and others have today certainly made a move to Arsenal seem more likely than it’s been at any point recently. There’s quite clearly a feeling at Chelsea that they can upgrade on him, and if a suitable bid comes in, they’ll take it.
As for defenders, there are a lot of departures that need to happen before that feels likely, with Renato Veiga and Axel Disasi top of the list.
