Manchester launched its 2008/2009 season campaign aiming to secure the third premier league victory. The Red Devils got seven points by mid-March ahead of their rivals Liverpool. By April 5th, United had reduced the gap to one point as they welcomed Aston Villa at Old Trafford. United opened the scoring surge at the 14th minute, which Aston Villa replied with two goals at the 30th and 58th minute.
In the 61st minute, Ferguson took off Nani and replaced him with the little-known 17-year-old Federico Macheda, coming straight from the academy. Christiano Ronaldo then went ahead to equalize the game with just 10 minutes on the clock. Macheda curled a shot to the far corner at injury time, giving Manchester United the third goals and three points.
