Ahead of tonight’s Liga MX semi-final first-leg clash between León and Chivas, we look at some of the great and some of the controversial players who have played for both clubs.

It is no longer strange that the ‘Fiera’ and the ‘Flock’ share a lot of history since there have been about 50 players who have worn both shirts.

Players such as ‘Gullit’ Peña, ‘Gallito’ Vázquez, and Carlos Peña have been accompanied by huge criticism for their actions on or off the pitch.

54-time Mexico international Jonny Magallón played with Chivas from 2005 to 2012, winning a Liga MX title in 2006. He then went to León, with whom he also had great success, winning the 2013 Apertura and 2014 Clausura titles before leaving for Lanús in 2016.

José Juan Macías has been, perhaps, the most successful player who featured for both Chivas and León in recent years, although injuries have prevented him from playing the 2020 ‘Guard1anes’ Liguilla.

In goal, Rodolfo Cota had the opportunity to defend the Chivas and León shirt, winning the Concacaf Champions League with Chivas (and Macías) in 2018.

‘Gallito’ Vázquez achieved promotion with León in 2012 and was part of the bicampeonato in 2013 and 2014 before joining Chivas in 2016, winning both the Liga MX and Copa MX titles during the 2017 Clausura campaign.

However, Vázquez has been separated from the team last month after attending a party with some of his Chivas team-mates, who were also kicked off the team for violating biosafety guidelines.
