Liverpool fans react on Twitter amid speculation of unfurling a Marcus Rashford banner at Anfield
Marcus Rashford could become the first Manchester United player to see his banner unfurled at Anfield this Sunday.
A section of Liverpool fans on Twitter have mooted the possibility of honouring the Manchester United star for his efforts in combating child hunger.
The 23-year-old’s efforts have helped children all across England, including Liverpool. Everton thanked the player for his efforts prior to the Premier League clash between the Toffees and United at Goodison Park. Whether Liverpool will do the same remains to be seen.
While a section of their supporters is in favour of it, there are also a large number of them against it. Rather than downplay Rashford’s efforts, it is a legitimate concern of not having to root for your rival star.
Given the tribal nature of football allegiances, the decision is understandable.
While we wouldn’t mind either way if Rashford gets a banner or not, a show of thanks could help unite a country that has been divided for some time now.
After all, no quarter will be given once the whistle blows and the match kicks off this weekend.
What Liverpool ultimately decide to do remains to be seen. We take a look at how fans reacted to the suggestion on Twitter.
