Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives injury update on Pogba and McTominay

Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t Manchester Evening News) before the encounter against Southampton, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave an injury update on Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, and several other players who he believes could feature this weekend.

French midfielder Paul Pogba and Scottish defensive midfielder Scott McTominay both missed the UEFA Champions League group stage match against Istanbul this week.

Solskjaer has further ruled out the duo for the trip to St. Mary’s this weekend when Manchester United take on Southampton in the Premier League.

“Scott [McTominay] and Paul [Pogba] didn’t train this morning. They weren’t on the grass, so look very unlikely for the weekend [against Southampton].”

In some good news for the club, Solskjaer says that up to 5 players could be available for selection this weekend as Victor Lindelof, Marcus Rashford, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka all trained on Friday.

“Marcus [Rashford], Victor [Lindelof], Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] came through the session today, so hopefully they should be okay but still not 100%.”

The Norwegian admitted giving some players time off after a busy schedule but says that he expects Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani to be available this week.

“We played on Tuesday then don’t have a game until Sunday, so it’s been a long period for us, we managed to give the boys a day off during this difficult time. [Van de Beek and Cavani] will both be available to play and I’m sure if they do they’ll be capable again.”

The Red Devils, like most big clubs around Europe, have a highly congested fixture list ahead. Solskjaer’s men play 10 times between tomorrow and December 29, and squad rotation will be key for the manager in his bid to secure the coveted top-four spot in the league this season.
