Solskjaer reveals Martial may recover in time to face Liverpool | OneFootball

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that forward Anthony Martial may recover in time for the highly-anticipated clash with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The French international started in the 1-0 win over Burnley last time out, yet was forced off in the closing stages with what looked like a muscle injury.

The forward hasn’t exactly been at his best this season and has only scored two league goals thus far, although he remains a key member of the first team and would be almost certain to start if fit.

While the injury is not expected to be serious, there are doubts as to whether the 25-year-old would be fit to face champions Liverpool this weekend, in what is a hugely important game in the title race.

United’s win at Turf Moor moved them three points clear at the top of the table and meant it was the first time since 2012 that they had been at the summit at this stage of the season.

With such a huge game to come, Solskjaer will be hoping to have all of his key men available, with the 47-year-old revealing that Martial hasn’t been ruled out just yet, although fringe players Phil Jones and Brandon Williams are certain to miss the game.

“Well, I think we have as many injuries as them,” Solskjaer told his pre-match press conference. “That’s just how football is, you get injuries and that’s just part and parcel of the game.

“I’ll give everyone tomorrow as well to prove their fitness, to get a chance to go to that game. There are a couple of knocks that we got at Burnley that I’m not sure about. For us, form goes out the window when you play your rivals.

“I’m going to give everyone a chance, another day. Anthony is not out of it.

“I think the only ones that are certainly out it are Brandon and Phil Jones. They are the two that definitely cannot make the game. A couple of others may be doubts, but we’re hoping – fingers crossed.”
