Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka picked up knocks last night against Istanbul Basaksehir.

The defensive duo started against Istanbul Basaksehir, although Lindelof was replaced by Axel Tuanzebe at half-time.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer didn’t make a change at right-back until the second half had started when he brought on Brandon Williams.

It wasn’t clear at the time how much pain Wan-Bissaka was in at the time, but the club plan to monitor both players over the coming days.

When asked about the pair after beating Istanbul, Solskjaer told the official Manchester United website: “Hopefully they’ll be ready for the weekend,” Solskjaer told BT Sport. “It’s ankle for Aaron and back for Victor. There was no point taking any more risks.”

In addition to Lindelof and Wan-Bissaka being doubtful to face Southampton on Sunday, Luke Shaw and Eric Bailly remain sidelined as they recover from injuries.

At least the win over Tuesday night proved to Solskjaer that he can rely on Brandon Williams to fill the void at left-back if Wan-Bissaka is unable to play.

The same goes for Tuanzebe with Lindelof possibly ruled out.

With three wins on the bounce, United cannot afford to lose momentum now as there’s a chance to make ground throughout the hectic festive period.

No excuses can be made if we fall short against the Saints.
