Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly spearheading Besiktas’ pursuit of one of his ex-Manchester United protegees, Marcus Rashford.

The attacker made 135 appearances under Solskjaer, scoring an impressive 55 goals in all competitions and playing an integral role before things ultimately turned too troublesome at Old Trafford – when the Norweigan was then relieved of his duties.

He didn’t rush back into the management game like most would, either, and has only just taken his first job since departing United in 2021 after being made head coach of Besiktas. Ironically, the move to Turkey will see him again come head-to-head with ex-Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho when they face Fenerbahce.

Solskjaer sets sights on Rashford reunion… apparently

Luckily for Solskjaer, he still has a matter of weeks to get any deals over the line and oversee a spirited second half of the campaign with his desired signings.

In line with that, Istanbul-based journalist Gokmen Ozcan has today claimed that Rashford is now among Besiktas’ transfer shortlist this winter following his exile from the United first-team, which has seen him linked with a host of clubs in recent weeks.

We can’t speak on the reliability of the source, but the prospect of Solskjaer targeting his former frontman isn’t too far out of the realm of possibility. In fact, he once claimed Rashford had everything it took for him to establish himself as a top forward, saying: “He runs in behind, he comes short, he can play a pass, he’s got individual skills. So, Marcus has got all the attributes to be a top forward.”

Yet, it’s highly unlikely the player would want to swap the English top flight for the Turkish Super Lig. Instead, he’s crossing his fingers and hoping that Barcelona can free up enough space on the wage bill to facilitate his arrival on loan before the February 3 deadline.
