Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praises Manchester United debutant Dean Henderson

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Evening Standard), Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has singled out Dean Henderson for praise after the Carabao Cup third-round win over Luton Town.

The Englishman made his United debut in the match against the Championship side at Kenilworth Road. Goals from Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford ensured he got off to a winning start.

He kept a clean sheet and was at hand to make a stellar stop in the 80th minute. United had a solitary lead at that point, making his effort all the more significant.

The goalkeeper’s position has been a matter of debate following David de Gea’s drop off in form in the last two years.

This coupled with the rise of Henderson saw some tout the Englishman to replace De Gea in goal.

Henderson signed a new long-term deal at United this summer and looks set to compete with De Gea. While the Red Devils were expected to beat Luton, the youngster showed he will be ready when called upon.

Solskjaer was pleased with the player’s performance and even compared it to that of De Gea. Given the standards the Spaniard has set, that is some high praise.

With two solid keepers at our disposal, United have a strong goalkeeping department to call upon. Hopefully, competition will help bring out the best in both of them.
