Speaking after the win against Fulham (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave an injury update on Victor Lindelof and said he is fit to play against Liverpool.
Lindelof sustained a back injury some 15 months ago in a Europa League match against AZ Alkmaar. It was likely due to the plastic pitch, and the injury still troubles the Swede to this day.
He has missed 5 out of United’s last 7 games. Harry Maguire was partnered by Eric Bailly in the club’s 2-1 win against Fulham on Wednesday.
Lindelof did play against Liverpool in last week’s 0-0 Premier League draw, but Solskjaer stated that the Fulham game came too early for the Swede, and hence he rotated his defence.
“Victor will be fine for the weekend, it was just too quick a turnaround we felt with the travel and with his back.”
Solskjaer stated that the time off was used by Lindelof to recover and get some light training. It is likely that the former SL Benfica will play against the Reds. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
The United boss also indicated the kind of line-up that United would put out against Liverpool. He added that he will rotate the team but it will good enough to give the Reds a run for their money.
“We’ll rotate, that’s for sure. We’ll put a decent team together of course, a team I feel can win the game.”
United have had poor luck in the FA Cup draws under Solskjaer While United are in a strong position to win the league this season, winning a domestic cup alongside it never hurts.
