Solskjaer discusss his favourite topic and how it can shape Man United’s chances of success | OneFootball

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer just can’t help himself when it comes to reminiscing of former glories, with the Manchester United manager once again hoping his side can take inspiration from the club’s famed treble-winning team.

Solskjaer was a key component of the Red Devils squad that made unprecedented history a little more than two decades ago, and in another recounting of that historic season the Norwegian is hoping to inspire the current side.

United famously left it late to come from behind and beat Liverpool in the FA Cup fourth round that season, two goals in the final two minutes from Dwight Yorke and Solskjaer ensuring the club’s progress in a competition they would win by beating Newcastle at Wembley.

It was a result that proved a turning point in an incredible period of success, with Sir Alex Ferguson’s side also pipping Arsenal to the Premier League title and lifting the Champions League in dramatic circumstances against Bayern Munich.

United meet their North West rivals at the same stage of this year’s FA Cup in a huge clash at Old Trafford this weekend, and Solskjaer is hoping his side can similarly use cup competition as a springboard towards further success.

“Of course we can take a few things from that season,” he said.

“We know that there’s tight moments, very fine margins. In that season we were close to going out against Liverpool and Peter Schmeichel saved a penalty in the semi-final in injury time. Those moments, gave us the mental advantage.

“Against Liverpool we got that boost of turning 1-0 down into a 2-1 win against a big team.

“The FA Cup is a run we’ve got to enjoy as long as it lasts. We got to the semis last year and as I said, we’re going to make a few changes but we’ll put a team out there that I hope can go through.”
