Manchester United star Daniel James taken off with a ‘tweak’ against Real Sociedad

According to The Express, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that winger Daniel James suffered a minor injury in the Europa League clash against Real Sociedad.

The 23-year-old had been one of United’s in-form players going into the game. Hopefully, the issue isn’t serious and he will not have to spend time on the sidelines.

Solskjaer was vague regarding the precise details of James’ predicament. The Welshman felt something and was taken off for Amad Diallo. Hopefully, the quick precaution will see him return to action as soon as possible.

“He had a tweak. With the intensity he works at he felt something, so we hope it’s not really serious.”

James has in recent weeks really upped the ante with his performances. He has scored six goals in his last ten games for the club. To put it into context, it is more than what he scored in his previous 50 appearances for United. (h/t Transfermarkt)

He is not the first in-form star United have lost in recent weeks. French superstar Paul Pogba, who was impressing in a consistent role, limped away against Everton on 6th February and has not played since.

Solskjaer confirmed that the 27-year-old is still weeks away from recovering. This should keep him out of action at least until mid-March.

James was not the only player to be withdrawn by Solskjaer. The Norwegian also took off Brazilian midfielder Fred to protect him from a suspension rather than any injury concerns.

“Fred came off, he had a booking so I didn’t want to take a chance with him.”

United next face Chelsea in this weekend’s standout fixture in the Premier League. The likes of Edinson Cavani, Donny van de Beek and Scott McTominay are all in contention to feature.
