Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Mason Greenwood spoke to the media on Wednesday ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League clash with Real Sociedad.

Greenwood on returning to last season’s form

“I feel I am getting closer to my levels last season. Hopefully I can get back to the standards of last season.

“I don’t mind, I can play anywhere across the front three. For me it is just about adapting. I don’t really mind, I will take it as it comes.

“It is something – it’s a challenge. First season not many know you, second season they catch up on you. You need tricks up your sleeve.”

Greenwood on learning from Solskjaer and Edinson Cavani

“They both were and are amazing players. I have been learning a lot off Edinson, Solskjaer being my coach it is a positive to have them both there.”

Solskjaer on Cavani, Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek

“Paul he is recovering well, starting treatment. Still a few weeks, so he won’t be playing in February that’s for sure.

“Apart from that a couple of doubts. Anthony [Martial] and Scott [McTominay], so we will have to check them tomorrow.

“Donny and Edinson definitely not travelling. They are injured – muscle injuries.”

Solskjaer on Greenwood’s best position

“I think Mason was a bit shy there, he can play number ten too! I think we just have to give him time to find his final position.

“He is a forward who moves really well along the line. Sometimes you don’t want to be right in the mix, so I think we have found he can play both really.

“In and around the goal – we need him there.”

Solskjaer on United’s strikers’ lack of goals

“We are the team who have scored the most goals in the league. Our strikers haven’t scored as much as we’d like to – that’s a good problem.

“If we can get them firing we’ll have another edge in the games.

“They are working hard and doing well in training.”

Solskjaer on Real Sociedad

“You’ve got to be very, very good against them. Probably the hardest team we could get at this stage. Still in the hunt for Champions League.

“We have to play at a high level to get a result.”

Solskjaer on United’s poor recent record against LaLiga sides

“It’s probably down to the level of teams we’ve played. Spanish teams are good – we haven’t played well enough.

“We don’t go into games worrying.”

Solskjaer on Juan Mata

“He has been away for a little while.

“Against West Brom you wonder what he might have done. He is travelling with us.

“If we see him on the pitch I’m sure he’ll want to prove to Spanish fans what a player he is.”

Solskjaer on social media abuse of Anthony Martial

“I spoke to him this morning and he’s mentally strong.

“It’s not something anyone should have to go through. He definitely seems like he is – he’s not checking social media – but it is disgusting. We have to do something about it.”

Solskjaer on Amad Diallo

“Well we give them a chance to come to United and have a successful career. That is something we take serious and are good at.

“We like to give players a chance. Our fans, our history has always been about skilful attacking players.”
