Solskjaer has his say on Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation

As reported by the Mirror, Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that he has a ‘difficult’ decision to make with regards to his goalkeeping options for the next season.

As things stand, Manchester United have David de Gea as the club’s first-choice between the sticks, with Sergio Romero being the backup.

But things are set to change as Dean Henderson is back from his loan spell from Sheffield United. The 23-year-old, during his two-year stint with Blades, has established himself as one of the best in his position in England.

This has coincided with a period of steep decline in De Gea’s form. The Spaniard has made several high-profile errors over the past couple of seasons. In fact, his mistakes cost us a place in the FA Cup final this season.

Then there is Romero, who is regarded as one of the best backup goalkeepers in the Premier League currently. The Argentine has been top-notch every time he has been asked to step up by the manager.

With three top quality keepers in the squad for next season, Solskjaer has admitted that he will have to make some tough calls in the off-season. (h/t Mirror)

“I think I must be the most privileged manager in the world with the goalkeeping department. We’ll see what we’ll do going forward. Difficult? Yes. But that’s a good problem to have.”

Recent reports have claimed that Solskjaer might consider sending Henderson out on loan for another season after handing him a new deal.

But with De Gea’s form plummeting so hard of late, perhaps the Englishman should be given a shot at taking over the gloves from the Spaniard next season.
