Sofiane Diop is MVP and part of L’Equipe’s Team of the Round for Matchday 17! | OneFootball

He started off strong and never let up. This Sunday, Sofiane Diop helped lead a masterclass as part of a big Monegasque win against Metz (4-0), at the Stade Louis-II. A performance which earned him to be elected, by a wide margin, as MVP of the match by the supporters of the Rouge et Blanc on the AS Monaco App, with 55% of the votes, and to appear in l’Équipe’s team of the round in Ligue 1.

Monaco’s fastest goal in Ligue 1 since 2017

It must be said that the Monegasque number 37  well deserved both of these honors, by first opening the scoring with a fine finish, when the match had just started, at 1:30 into the first half. It was his fifth goal of the season in Ligue 1, and seventh in all competitions, but also AS Monaco’s fastest in the league since August 27, 2017 (Kamil Glik against Marseille after 1:09).

The Monégasque who the most duels

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder then turned provider, by picking out Gelson Martins perfectly in the penalty area, so that the Portuguese could beat Alexandre Oukidja (3-0, 57′) . It was the first assist of the season in the league for Sofiane Diop, who confirms, having been involved in three goals across his last two Ligue 1 matches (2 goals, 1 assist), as many as his first 14 this season (three goals).

With 75% of his passes completed, 6 ball recoveries, 4 fouls suffered and above all, 71% of his duels won, i.e. the highest total for his team, the native of Tours turned in a very good display, which also earned him a place in l’Équipe’s team of the round for the 17th day of Ligue 1.
